When was the last time you paused and said, "You know, people owe me. People don't touch me with their actions, words, or gifts because I expect and deserve them." Ouch, right?! Who says that???
I don't know of anyone in my circle of people that say that. But knowing that our actions are born out of our deep beliefs, I wonder if people do in fact believe something similar based on the sense of gratitude they have. Let me be clear: this is not a position of groveling, or one in which the individual needs to have a worthless view of self. Rather, it is a question of how we recognize the goodness that enters our life, and in turn, being thankful.
I can count up the people that have made a difference in my life this week. They've blessed me with encouragement. They have taken time to extend kindness. They have let me know that I'm valued. They have found ways to help me when I needed it this week. I am so thankful for these people!
I don't know about you, but I find it humbling to realize they don't owe me these sweet gestures at all. They do it because they care. And I want to let those dear people know how thankful I am, both for them in who they are, but also in the ways they live their lives and touch others.
Today is looking like a great day to drop a thank you note, don't you think?
