An Afternoon with Three Darling Aunties

Once upon a time I lived in a weensy teensy town in a big ole house.  "Ole" is literal since it was built in 1911 (the insulation was fabulous, let me tell you...but that's not really part of the story!).  This large white house with stained glass windows lived on a corner lot.  Flowers were abundant and carefully cultivated.  Rows and rows of gladiolas, flat gray stones interspersed with impatiens, lush peonies, glowing daffodils in many varieties--it was lovely.
On either side of the house lived an elderly lady (they were mother and daughter).  Their names were Madge and Martha Jo.  They were delighted to have a young girl playing in the big white house, and often wanted to chat with her.  Madge had a special love of all the pretty posies growing in the yard, and Martha Jo was full of stories and creativity.
When I put together this collection of books, I was recalling all the best parts of being a young girl soaking up the delight of being with an elderly woman who doted on her.
The top jotter is one I call "Afternoon Gardening with Auntie Lela."  We pore over gardening magazines and seed packets, deciding where we should sow our gerbera daisy seeds...
The middle journal is one you've glimpsed a few days ago.  This one is "Afternoon Tea with Auntie Margaret".  She sits with me after school and asks me about my day; the joys, the adventures, the woes, the new learnings.  Careful not to spill our tea, we look through giant coffee table books of far away places and glamorous  designs.
The last book is a slim line journal--all the goodness of my regular journals with half the pages.  No bulkiness here!  This one is "Afternoon Art with Auntie Lela."  Some days she sets out watercolors and heavy, heavy paper.  She shows me how to express joy with the happy colors.  On other days, its acrylic or simple pencils, and she instructs me on how to better my drawing skills.

I had a lot of fun dreaming as I put these three books together.  I hope you'll enjoy them and their stories just like I did!  Do you have childhood memories of a special elderly lady to share?  I'd love to read about them!

(These books will appear in my Etsy shop next week!)
